KELLY T. SMITH, SENIOR ATTORNEY

Kelly T. Smith practices general civil law with an emphasis on real property, environ-mental and business litigation. He has appeared in state and federal courts. He also counsels clients on real property transactions, environmental regulation compliance and the formation of business partnerships, LLCs and corporations. His recent federal court successes have included cases in civil rights, defense under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and maritime law. Recent state court litigation has included cases involving inverse condemnation, eminent domain, administrative writ, and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

A licensed real estate broker, Mr. Smith has provided legal counsel in a variety of property transactions including sale of businesses, residential and commercial property. He has litigated a wide variety of real property matters, including quiet title, contract specific performance, redevelopment and eminent domain. He is licensed to practice in California state courts and in the federal district courts for the Southern District and Eastern District of California.

He received his undergraduate degree in journalism and Scandinavian languages and literature from the University of Washington in 1979; his law degree from the University of Northern California, Lorenzo Patino School of Law.

Mr. Smith’s outside interests focus on his wife and four kids, theology, history, especially late Roman Empire, and raising a racket with the obscure garage roots rock band, Slobber. He is modestly proficient in Swedish and French languages.

DEVIKA DATT, pROGRAM COORDINATOR/ANALYST

Ms. Datt coordinates special programs for The Smith Firm, including state correctional law contracts. She is knowledgable about prison institutions around the state of California. She is an experienced paralegal and knowledgable regarding federal and state court procedures.

Previously employed by other Sacramento County law firms, she received her training at U.C. Santa Cruz and Fiji Technical Insttitute. She lives with her husband and son in Sacramento.

Ms. Datt also acts as office manager for The Smith Firm. She can be contacted for available information regarding a client's case. She functions as liason with the courts for much of our litigation. Her prompt response to your needs and questions is a hallmark of Ms. Datt's work. She speaks Hindi fluently.
